Epic surf hit Southern California in time for the last three days of competition. The swell peaked on Saturday morning with 20 foot faces rolling through. The heavy hitters from the WCT were in contention amongst other great surfers. Brett Simpson was the lone HB local still left in the later rounds. His knowledge of the break, ability to read the water and flat out awesome surfing catapulted him through to the finals against Mick Fanning. It was a great battle between the two surfers in front of record crowds. When it was all finished, Simpson was the $100,000 man. We couldn’t have asked for better weather and surf this past weekend, it was unreal. Here’s a shot of Brett just coming out of the water as the new US Open champ. Congrats!
